Maternity Fashion

Now that we have finally announced our new addition (baby #3), I can post some blogs about maternity fashion!! YAY! Of course, they will be of the bargains I have found because if you’re like me, you definitely don’t want to spend a fortune on something you will only use for a very short amount of time.

For my first two kids, I didn’t buy one piece of “maternity clothing”, but that was mainly because I didn’t have to. A lot of my pants were already too big because I was so small and many stretched. The tops were easy as long as they were loose. This pregnancy is giving me a harder time as with each child, I go up in a size and add 5 pounds, lol.

My first child I wore a size 3 or 5 in juniors (110 pounds). My second child I wore a size 5 juniors or 2-4 in womens (115 pounds). For this third one, I have remained at a size 4 (a 2 during my fitness journey which I had to put off for a while. 120 pounds). I am now around 130 pounds, but will go back down when I continue my fitness journey in April. A six is still too big and baggy in certain areas, and some 4s are too tight around the chest area (dresses) so I have had to start looking at dresses that could pass as maternity or get actual maternity pieces such as pants and tunics.

This is the first time I have ever worn those crazy pants with that big ‘ol panel at the top and let me tell you how its just weird to me!! I still wear some of my regular jeans and do that fancy hair tie trick, but I figured since I am only 5 months, that just isn’t going to work for 4 more months this time. Bummer.

I was about 18 weeks here maybe. 12.14.15. I don’t keep up.

Here is a fabulous find that I snatched up a few weeks before Christmas at JC Penneys! Nope, not Goodwill (but cheaper than Goodwill!!) ;). I could hardly believe how it happened too. Let us know about your lucky finds!!

This dress is great because it is extremely soft and stretchy, but has a silky cotton feel. I didn’t even try it on in the store and it is NOT a “maternity dress”. The color is more of a turquoise which catches my attention every time anyway. The belt is my daughters from one of her old dresses, lol.

So, this simple dress can be dressed up or down and is one of my favorite finds. Here is why.

I was with the family at the mall looking for another pink shirt for our photo shoot the next day. Yup, always the last minute on things. It makes it such an adventure, lol. We got the one we had seen a while back for J, my husband and headed upstairs to the kids section to find a pink shirt for DuGrei, my son (no pink for boys here- crazy). The lines were super long so we headed to lingerie where there was no wait. While standing there waiting on the cashier, I saw a dress hanging on the front of the rack of some mens clothing (right next to us in line). It had a pink sticker tag of 14.99 which meant clearance. I said to J, “I’m going to hold onto this and check to see if it is any lower. Just in case, ya know.” He rolled his eyes because I always do stuff like that (saying just in case and sometimes get it anyway).

So, we get to the register after one other lady we let go in front of us is finished and I ask the cashier about the dress after she scans J’s shirt. She says, “Yes, it is only 3.95 (ish).” I said, “Come again.” She verified the new clearance price and I must have started glowing as I looked at J with begging eyes for approval. He said it was fine (who wouldn’t snatch that deal up when you have a giant, growing belly?!). So, then the cashier says, “You know, if you spend $25 you get $10 off. What!! I was only another 3 dollars short! I scurried through the upstairs looking for something small I could grab (hoping to see a Godiva stand, but forgetting I was not in Macys). I ran across a candle holder display and found some Sugar Strawberry scented wax blocks I could use in our candle warmer. They were regularly 7.50 and on sale for 3.50 (ish). We went back through line and finished up. I mean. Wow.

The dress shirt for my hubby was 19.99 so basically I got the dress and wax for free!!! I was so happy!!

Remember that during pregnancy (as experienced moms will already know) everything widens. It may only seem like the belly, but the chest gets bigger too so those zippered dresses and many empire waist dresses that seem like they would work will be too tight up there. This dress does not have any zippers or buttons and has a very giving elastic empire waist (some that have elastic are still too tight depending on the fabric). Since this fabric is like a silky cotton and very stretchy anyway, it was perfect!!!

I added the little belt that came on one of Alexis’ dresses just so it wouldn’t be extremely plain. I wore my strappy, leopard suede sandals to give a nice FL summer look and threw an American Eagle slouch bag on my shoulder. Voila! Pregnant in style (well, my style at least, haha).

Note: This dress is a PS (petite small)!
