Modern Country Chic

Many weekends when my husband is off of work we pit stop into Goodwill to browse, but we all know that this browsing we speak of turns into pieces hanging all around the cart for us to decide on as we make our way through housewares.

This trip I remember finding quit a few pieces and this was a really nice one that was like new. Bentlie already had the pants from March.

This top reminds me of a cute country summer top that a teen would wear with some boots. We decided to keep it modern with the harem pants and glitter shoes to tone it down a bit!

It was a super HOT Tennessee day, but we paired these harem pants with the summer tank since we would be inside most of the day.

Bentlie thought it was so fun to sit in the front seat waiting on dad to go! The photo below was taken a couple of months ago! She can still wear this outfit with ease :). I think the mismatched socks she touch was just perfect!

Here she is in the same pants a few months ago with a different top (a onesie). I love how all of her pieces can be mix and matched and worn a while! It makes for a lot more outfits which is always a WIN!

I learned a long time ago not to let my pride keep me from big savings, and we have done a fabulous job. I wish I would have kept ALL of the receipts through these trips and sites to show how much we truly have saved by shopping deals.

Minds of beautiful children

Ive always wanted the best for my kids. Things that I didn’t have or couldn’t have (even though I look back and I was very fortunate, but didn’t realize it at the time).

My family has gone through some things that made this not possible for a while. My kids are troopers though and they understand more at their age (10 and 8) than I did just 5 or 7 years ago in my mid/ late 20’s. I feel like we have done a tremendous job teaching them because of our experiences and I know they are going to be invincible as adults.

So even if I could buy them the world today, I wouldn’t. Does that mean they don’t deserve nice things, no. They absolutely deserve great things, but it goes beyond that. So, ill begin with the basics of clothing. Clothing is my second world. My family is my first.

These kids are at the time in their lives where they can wear something for a few months and then it is too small for them. This will happen until they are about 17 or 18 give or take. I want them to have an amazing future and that means that we need to save now (or should have been saving even more years ago)…which means it doesn’t make sense for me to buy a 58 dollar pair of jeans JUST because they hang in a store called “Justice”.

I bring Justice up because Alexis, my 10 year old daughter received some Justice clothes for Christmas (from friends). It is now February and a pair of the jeans are completely split open and shredded at the back seam. We take very good care of our clothes but the seam just fell apart. Having gone through some of the things we have, every cent counts, regardless of the balance. That was unacceptable.

So this is sort of why I started rambling about these things. I wanted to show that these things should not make someone popular or better than the next person. In grade school and even in high school, I was made fun of because I didn’t have what the other kids had. It wasn’t because we didn’t have the money…it was because my parents were SMART! You have no idea what others are facing or why they are doing the things they are doing. You probably will not understand until you actually go through it and for those that have, then I hope that you try to change the minds of others as well.

I don’t buy anything from these thrift stores that we go to unless they are in excellent condition. They may be “out of season” according to that brand, but that just doesn’t matter here. Is the quality of Justice clothing great? I don’t think so, but Id rather pay 2.99 for a Justice shirt or Justice jeans over 58.00. If it rips after 3 times of wearing it, I’m not going to be as upset.

That reminds me about when I went through a laundry bag this morning after the wash was finished Sunday night. Apparently a crayon or two ended up in the wash and in the dryer (my son has this thing about hoarding things in his pockets and my husband has this thing about not checking pockets before washing) so one of the loads now has orange and blue splotches on everything. Most of it ended up being not “ready to go clothes” (as we call clothes we wear away from home), but sleeping clothes, towels, socks, and under clothes. There were a couple of pieces like one of Alexis’ new dresses and a pair of DuGrei’s new shorts. I thought it sucked but I wasn’t as angry as if I would have paid the regular crazy prices for them. I’m out 2.99 for the shorts and 2.99 for the dress. She didn’t like the dress anyway, but whatever. I’m going to try to spray and wash it all and see if any of it comes out, lol.

Bold words are my recent finds

goodwill34_alexis goodwill34_alexis_1

Sweater dress: The Childrens Place- Goodwill- 3.99 NWT (new with tags)

She loves this dress :). Happy mommy moment.

Shirt: Wrangler- Christmas gift from family

Pants: Gap Kids- Goodwill- 2.99

Sandals: Dollar General- .50 (summer sale and bought as beach shoes. He wasnt supposed to have them on today but he wont leave home without them)

DuGrei now has about 20 pairs of shorts which all together would come out to be less than 60 dollars, about 2.99 a pair even though some of them were half off and some still had tags. They are “reputable” brands, but I didnt have to pay the brand prices. Does he care? Not now and hopefully later it wont matter to him because he will always be beautiful with a lot of friends for the RIGHT reasons. Same goes for my daughter.

If people do not want to be our friends because of how we choose to spend our money, then they are not real friends and we are better off without them, honestly.

Love my family. Love my life.
